Have you ever wanted to work with silver but thought it might be too difficult, time consuming or expensive? Now you can, using Precious Metal Clay® (PMC). PMC consists of microscopic particles of silver or gold suspended in an organic binder to create a pliable material with a consistency similar to that of modeling clay. PMC can be worked with fingers and simple tools to create a vast range of forms. When heated to a high temperature, the binder burns away and the metal particles fuse to form solid silver. PMC assays as pure silver that can be sanded, soldered, and polished like conventional materials. Students will learn the techniques to create multiple pieces of handcrafted silver art jewelry.

In this workshop, we’ll share the basics tips and tricks that will deliver success, instead of wasted PMC and frustration! Basic band and coil construction will be the focus of this workshop. To ensure your success, students will learn correct sizing, making ring forms using molds and investment, kiln firing, and finishing techniques. We’ll even learn how to design outstanding and unusual settings with stones and other inclusions. Students will learn to sculpt, shape, and carve their way into stackable rings, and more!

Students will work with the exciting new metal clay made of Bronze. Different from Precious Metal Clay Silver and Gold, BRONZclay feels, forms, and fires unlike anything else. The pieces you'll create will be uniquely yours, and will have the patina of ancient bronze works. Students will design pendants, earrings, and more in this excitement filled workshop. Your work will look like it's been unearthed as part of an ancient treasure. This class is perfect for metal clay beginners, as well as those experienced in PMC. Have you been looking for just the right texture, design or pattern and can’t seem to get your hands on the tool to create it? This workshop shows students how to develop their own signature textured stamps and logo impressions, utilizing photopolymer plates. Using the photopolymer plate technique, students can create their personal art stamps that can be used to impress into metal clay or stamped onto metals to etch designs. This fun and easy process can be repeated over and over to make the most of your design ideas. Fun, easy, fast, and did we say FUN?

PMC & Glass

Pre-Requisite: Intro to PMC or Intro to BRONZclay

PMC3 is formulated to fire at lower temperatures than PMC standard or PMC+. For this reason you can combine PMC3 with fused glass to create spectacular jewelry. Most importantly, at the PMC3 firing temperature the integrity of your original glass piece is maintained. In this workshop you will use multiple techniques to create silver and dichroic glass pendants. Students will learn the necessary firing schedules and differences in using PMC3 with glass. This workshop adds even more fun to PMC.

Open Studio for PMC

Need space to work, a little creative inspiration, some coaching on technique? Want to try the equipment before you buy, or just need a fun place to play? If so, Open Studio is for you! The studio is open once per week exclusively to Wired Designs’ students. No guests are allowed. Students may use all studio tools and equipment. Bring your own supplies or purchase them here, it’s up to you! All are welcome to share in the fun and collaborative atmosphere. An instructor is always on site to help—so come and play anytime! Reservations are required.
