Novice jewelry makers will learn the basics of soldering metal jewelry items as well as PMC. Students will experience applying solder, firing a micro torch, removing fire scale, polishing, and more. Soldering jump rings will also be demonstrated. We’ll tackle earrings, rings, pendants and more for a great day of fun with our NO FEAR of the flame approach. This invaluable workshop will empower you to make your own small jewelry repairs and get you hooked on creating your own personalized pieces.

Jewelry makers who know the how-to of soldering with a micro torch will love this next step workshop. Participants will learn the basics of bezel setting cabochons of glass in sterling silver, copper, and brass settings. Students will experience creating a bezel cup, applying solder, firing a micro torch, removing fire scale, polishing, and more. This invaluable workshop will empower you to set your own glass cabochons and stones into spectacular personalized pieces of silver and Precious Metal Clay.

Students will learn to work with copper, brass, and sterling silver as their base material to create patterned, textured jewelry. This workshop builds on the skills learned in Cold Connections and takes you to a new level! Next step techniques include: learning the steps to making metal beads and baskets, mastering the tube rivet, understanding advanced connections, skilled sewn metals, pattern etching and more! Students will learn how to design and etch metal safely and effectively, plus we’ll tackle an ancient Japanese binding technique to accent and embrace our designs. No flame or solder are needed for these fabulous designs, just your imagination. We’ll work with copper, brass, and sterling silver to create your unique pieces. Don’t miss this one!

Fine Silver Fusing — Chain Making

In this special workshop, we’ll fuse fine silver wire to make an open design heavy chain necklace. This "no sweat" technique avoids the usual fire scale and pickling required for sterling silver. This method allows even a novice to have consistently beautiful results. PMC enthusiasts will love these techniques, as they allow for PMC elements to be added which can then be fired in the kiln with no oxidation. Finishing is a dream, as fine silver requires less effort to shine, patina, and shape than it's sterling silver cousin.

Need space to work, a little creative inspiration, some coaching on technique? Want to try the equipment before you buy, or just need a fun place to play? If so, Open Studio is for you! The studio is open once per week exclusively to Wired Designs’ students. No guests are allowed. Students may use all studio tools and equipment. Bring your own supplies or purchase them here, it’s up to you! All are welcome to share in the fun and collaborative atmosphere. An instructor is always on site to help—so come and play anytime! Reservations are required.
