2013 Studio Workshops » Glass Fusing / Kiln Forming

COMPREHENSIVE BEGINNINGS IN KILN FORMED GLASS

In this 2-day intensive workshop, students will receive in-depth, hands on introduction to kiln formed glass processes (a.k.a. fused glass) while learning structural basics. We’ll concentrate on understanding the science of glass, jewelry making, slumping plates and bowls, coldworking and finishing techniques including; saws, grinders, drilling holes, sandblasting, and more. Students will complete the following projects; dichroic jewelry, wall art, and a plate and bowl set.

QUILTING, WEAVING & SEWING GLASS

Join us for 3-days of fun as we will be doing all of these age old textile techniques (weaving, quilting, and sewing) using glass instead of fabric. Weaving glass for decorative and structural effects, using the Bohle Geomaster cutting system to cut quilt-like shapes and arrangements, wall art squares with ribbon stitching, and working with glass strands to make sculptural bowls will all be techniques that will be explored in this workshop.

DICHROIC JEWELRY… HOT ‘N NOT

In just ONE fast paced day, students will learn how to make the best in fused glass dichroic jewelry including beveling and faceting techniques used by the pros! We will fuse pendants in the kiln, laminate glass together with UV glues, grind and polish on the flat lap machine, plus learn the hidden secrets of the perfect fire polish.  This workshop is for those who love dichroic jewelry...whether it’s made hot...or not!

MAKING YOUR MARK; PRINT IMAGERY AND GRAPHICS IN GLASS

In this 2-day workshop, students will learn the basics of preparing their own images and transferring them onto glass while creating wonderful depth and detail.  We’ll explore six techniques to make your personal mark including photo transfer via (1) gel medium & transfer film, (2) photo resists (3) screen printing (4) painting with vitreous glass enamels using direct application and overpainting, (5) powder printing using frit and enamels, and (6) surface engraving with color fills.  If you’ve always wanted to add photographs, images, graphics or text effects to your work, this is the workshop for you.

glasSMART - INTRODUCING a NEW and INNOVATIVE WORKSHOP SERIES from Wired Designs!

GlasSMART© is an “ala carte” workshop series where students will learn the most exciting ways create new and useful components that can be incorporated into future work. The workshops in this series consist of 3 parts; Part A - Making “It”, Part B - Using “It” and Part C - Finishing “it”. Parts can be mixed and matched allowing you to participate in multiple Part A sessions and/or multiple Part B & C sessions based on your experience level.  Additionally, the ultimate in creativity… students are encouraged to combine components from multiple Part A sessions and use them in their final piece!

PART A: MAKING IT — These sessions consist of the “how-to” steps to accomplish successful results. Choose just one or choose them all!  The pre-requisite is comprehensive beginnings or the  equivalent experience.
